A good Flappy Bird score is anything that earns a medal. In the original game, 10 points got you bronze, 20 silver, 30 gold and 40 platinum. Plenty of first runs end on the first few pipes, so getting to 10 already means you’ve found the rhythm, and a steady 40 means you’re genuinely good. Past 100 you’re in rare company, though nobody keeps reliable numbers on how rare.
Flappy Bird medal scores #
The original Flappy Bird showed a medal on the game-over screen once you cleared 10 points. These thresholds come from Flappy Bird’s Wikipedia entry:

What score should you aim for? #
No one has published data on average Flappy Bird scores, so be wary of any site that quotes one. What you can go by is how the game’s difficulty works. Every pipe is the same, so each score band marks a skill rather than luck.
- Your first session: clear 10. Most early crashes come from panicked double taps into the top pipe. Once you stop doing that, 10 comes quickly.
- Your first week: 20 to 30. This is where rhythm takes over from reaction. You stop watching the bird and start watching the next gap.
- Platinum and beyond: 40+. At this point the challenge is attention. Your hands know what to do, and runs end when your mind drifts.
- 100 and up: exceptional. Reaching three digits means staying perfectly consistent for well over a minute of flying.

Is there a Flappy Bird world record? #
Not one you can trust. We couldn’t find a Guinness World Records category for Flappy Bird, and no organization verified runs while the game was on sale. Videos and screenshots claiming scores in the thousands have circulated since 2014. Some may be real. But the original game could be modified on jailbroken or rooted phones, and a screenshot is easy to fake, so there’s no way to tell a real record from an edited one.
The original has also been gone since February 10, 2014, when its creator Dong Nguyen pulled it from both app stores. The Flappy Bird on stores today is a 2024 reboot by a different group, with its own modes and scores. Our history of Flappy Bird covers how that happened.
So if a friend claims a score of 999, ask for the recording.
Why do scores stall in the 20s and 30s? #
Flappy Bird never speeds up, and that’s exactly the problem. The pipes look identical and arrive at the same pace forever, so after a minute your brain stops treating each gap as new. Attention slips, and a pipe you’d pass nine times out of ten ends the run. Most players plateau at the point where their focus runs out rather than their skill.
Two things help. Tap to a steady beat, as if you’re drumming along to a slow song, so your hands carry the rhythm when your attention wanders. And turn on Do Not Disturb before a serious run, because a notification banner at a score of 35 is a classic way to lose a record.
Are scores the same in other flappy games? #
No, and comparing them directly doesn’t work. Every tap-to-flap game sets its own gap size, speed and difficulty curve, so 30 points means something different in each one.
Flappy Kittens (called Flappy Cat on Google Play) is a good example. It starts easier than Flappy Bird, with wide gaps, then tightens them and speeds the towers up every 4 points. From a score of 15, some towers slide up and down. Its medals are spaced to match that curve:

Do leaderboards help you improve? #
For most players, a personal best is the better target. Global leaderboards in simple score games tend to fill up with impossible numbers from modified apps, and chasing a score of 9,999 is demoralizing when the honest top of the chart might be a fraction of that. Your own best gives you a goal you know is real and just out of reach.
Friends are the other good benchmark. A small group comparing screenshots has natural rules and nobody to cheat for. Flappy Kittens has no online leaderboard, but its Share button turns your game-over screen into a picture card with your score, best and medal. The winner can post it to the group chat.
How do you prove a high score? #
A screenshot of the game-over screen is the usual proof, but a screen recording is much harder to argue with.
- On iPhone, add Screen Recording to Control Center in Settings, then start it from Control Center before your run.
- On Android, most recent phones have a screen recorder in the Quick Settings panel. Swipe down from the top of the screen and look for Screen record.
- Start recording before the first tap and stop after the game-over screen, so the whole run is on video.
Recordings eat storage quickly, so delete the failed attempts as you go.
